Pink/Blue 〰️
In late 2016, I noticed every art show I attended seemed to be peppered with works such as Donald Trump painted on a gold toilet seat (because he’s “shitty” get it?) or Donald Trump as a fat person (because he’s fat, get it?). This all felt very uncreative, unfunny, and same-same to me. The stark change that was coming was not at its shitpinnacle yet, but it was ramping up. Artists and comedians began to pivot from irreverent, and “edgy” fun, to a bland brand of politically unified messaging.
This was my attenpt to poke fun at some gender discourse, which seemed to be everywhere (though would get much worse!) I don’t think it really came across that that’s what I was doing, but that’s ok.
